Just the goodfellows over this year: Lee, Matt, Stacy. Big bag of ‘stocking stuffers’ was passed around and opened with laughs. Matt got clunker, as did I: a Lindsay Lohan dvd. If I couldn’t be on a tropical beach this December, then this was the next best thing. Continue reading “Christmas 2012”
Thanksgiving at Lee’s
Lee sweetly hosted a very intimate Thanksgiving day up in Petaluma. We dined, napped, perambulated, desserted, and played Bananagrams. I can’t think of a single thing that could have improved it. Plus, we got to eat using the monogrammed Tiffany’s silver “M.L.G.” set. Continue reading “Thanksgiving at Lee’s”
Lake Tahoe lullaby
The boys and I went up for a week of quiet mountain air. And celebrated the birthdays of Matthew and Troy, too. Continue reading “Lake Tahoe lullaby”
HIV after ‘The Age of AIDS’
I saw this billboard around The Castro today, another in a long series of public health messages targeting gay men in an effort to curb the spread of HIV. Sadly, whoever created this new ad seems to have learned nothing from past failures at harm reduction messaging to gay men.
Formula retail, on balance, in Castro/Duboce Triangle
Recently, Erik Honda from DTNA solicited community input regarding formula retail in the district. I offer these thoughts in response to this article in the DTNA.org newsletter (page 4). In sum, I’m against caps, quotas, or outright bans on formula retail. Here’s why: Continue reading “Formula retail, on balance, in Castro/Duboce Triangle”
Wedding of Em + Josh
The Seattle weather was very cooperative for my first trip up there in over four years. A sweet wedding, full of good spirits and sugary delights. Continue reading “Wedding of Em + Josh”

Truckee R&R
A four day escape to higher elevations with John and Darryl (and Jax). Went up to Mike Schement’s Truckee cabin to just unplug, unwind, and hot tub. And grill stuff. Truckee is so sleepy and quiet in the off season between the ski hordes and the true summer session. Sadly, the old French bistro/patisserie is gone from downtown. Continue reading “Truckee R&R”
Grandma Evelyn’s memorial
My far-flung clan gathered to remember and celebrate the life of my dear Grandma Evelyn. My grandpa Mel, my uncle Steve, my aunt Jane, and my mom all gave sweet speeches. Grandma Evelyn lived life on her own terms and always steered her course towards what my her happy in her life. It’s a wonderful, inspiring legacy to all of us. I’ll miss her terribly. Continue reading “Grandma Evelyn’s memorial”
Stinson Beach Birthday
Ahh, the weekend getaway birthday. We rented La Casa Roja, right on the ocean at Stinson Beach. Revelers included Lee (March 7), John (March 6), and myself (March 1). Jax was in dog-heaven with lots of beach walks up to the Bolinas Lagoon. Lee packed all these old school games, like the 1950s masterpiece “Park-and-Shop!” Check out them closeup. Continue reading “Stinson Beach Birthday”
Fort Funston Sunday walk
Matthew, Jax, and I head to the shoreline for some gorgeous winter walk over the ocean. Continue reading “Fort Funston Sunday walk”
